W.I.P: An Ax'ranthael drawing

Here's a sneek peek of what I am drawing at the moment...

It is a type of dragon-like creature called an "Ax'Ranthael" from Sanctuary. To be honest, I don't know what Sanctuary is or the story behind these creatures (yet to do some research on that) but what got to me about these is the "appeal" of the creature. For some reason, I felt the urge to just draw one.

It has some rather interesting features that the conventional interpretation of a dragon does not share in common. A couple of these features are:

- The fact that it has wings similar to that of an avian (but on the reference sheet, it shows that it has feathers and a membrane); and
- It has a "thermal eye" in the pectoral area. The scales in that area are somewhat translucent so that we can just see it. It does as the name suggests.

The rough pencil work is almost done. I've spent a total of 2 and a half hours on this (accumulated) to date.

I think it was more because whoever did design this fantasy creature, really gave it a bit of thought. As with most fantasy creatures, even if the creature is not realistic in the sense of proportion or that the design may not even work, it has that appeal which makes you want to keep looking at it.

More progress to follow. Getting closer to the inking stage of this piece.

Signing out.

FIRST POST: Some background info

Greetings all,

Just a bit of background on me and why I started this blog.

An 18 year old student finishing up on my Visual Effects course this year, I am slowly making the transition from an everyday student to a conscript of the workforce. In order for me to better prepare myself for this inevitable chapter of life, I am preparing my body of artwork that I will utilize in trying to find myself a job (and hopefully career) as either one of the following:

- Illustrator
- Concept Artist
- Storyboard Artist

So... This blog is my small strand of silk in the gigantic world wide web that will have my illustrations, concept art and doodles for all to enjoy (hopefully). For the odd employer looking at this blog, I hope you enjoy and appreciate the skill set that I have to offer.

Now... I'm off to go and work on my drawing. Stay tuned, it will find its way here.
